A fresh, early morning start in Lucca, when the roads, shops and markets are at their liveliest and most attractive. Leaving the centre, we shall head for the unpaved roads along the river and the country roads to reach Nozzano, an old fortified town which maintains its original character. After Nozzano, a road immersed in green appears to take us, after a short but in part demanding ascent, to the highest part of the hill revealing an enchanting view of the lake of Massaciuccoli, the Migliarino Park, the coast, the sea and Viareggio in the distance. In order to reach the coast we shall continue our short excursion in the countryside around the lake and the Massaciuccoli marshland. Having reached Viareggio, and enjoyed a deserved break, we shall adventure into the Nature Park of "Migliarino-San Rossore", characterised by pines and dirt tracks among sand dunes, that almost touch the sea - the most uncontaminated part of the coast - and upon entering the countryside of Pisa we shall meet the Serchio river that once again will guide us home.
