Tuscany Coast - short
The best way to visit and enjoy Pisa, Lucca and the coast is getting up on a bike and exploring the old centre of the towns and the charming villages along the promenade of Versilia. The bike is also the perfect transport to go from town to the town and to the coast. Following the rivers, on local roads in the countryside and on bike path inside the city, you will have a wonderful experience.

Stages
Day 1
Individual arrival to Lucca and settling into the hotel. Lucca can easily be reached by local trains or buses from Pisa and Florence, where Tuscany's main airports are. Private minibus transfers from the airports can be arranged on request.
Day 2
Distance 51 km

We leave Lucca in the morning, when the streets and typical shops seem more lively and bright. Leaving the city center we skirt the cycle path along the Serchio river. We can see in the distance the ancient village of Nozzano, which maintains its original appearance and the medieval castle. We leave the cycle path and cross the town of San Giuliano, famous for its thermal establishment and the marble quarries, whose blocks were used to build the most important buildings in the city of Pisa.
We will cycle along the ancient Medici aqueduct from the 17th century and cross the famous "Piazza dei Miracoli" with the leaning tower, the cathedral and the baptistery. The last stretch that takes us to Tirrenia will be in a greener context. The cycle path, called ”Ciclabile del Trammino” (little tram cycle path), it’s a track built on the route of an old railway, crosses the famous coastal pine forest which takes us directly along the sandy beaches of the Tyrrhenian Sea.

We leave for the second day of the bike ride. We cycle along the seafront cycle path to admire the beautiful panorama of the coast and the city of Livorno. The scents of the Mediterranean scrub will delight your senses along all the route.
After a quick tour of the historic center - Bella Venezia district - pedal to the Livorno seafront.
Arrived in Ardenza you can choose either to ride along the seafront on a busy road but with a breathtaking view of the Tuscan Archipelago and the cliffs full of hidden coves, or take the Via del Santuario di Montenero, a panoramic climb of around 300 meters nestled in the green and followed by a road that goes downhill to Quercianella. It's up to you!

You'll start your tour southwards always along the seaside: you will enjoy the cycling on natural bike paths inside the centenarian pinewoods, arriving up to several lovely sandy beaches: “The White – Beaches of Vada”, the “Mazzanta”, the “Marina di Cecina”…since the climate in this part of Tuscany is very pleasant also in Spring and Autumn, you will have the chance to stop and relax on the sand, enjoying the typical quiet of early/late season and going for a swim in the sea when sun still brights high.

This is the day for people loving quality wines and the typical Tuscan countryside, with cypresses, vineyards, farmhouses, mild hills in the background…just like in the postcards! Actually the area we cross is not far from the sea and so not too hilly. The route is along the “Wineroad of the Etruscan Coast”: you will reach Bibbona, Bolgheri and Castagneto Carducci crossing the whole area where SuperTuscan wines such as Sassicaia and Ornellaia are produced. You will find a lot of wineries where you stop your cycling for a wine tasting, before coming back to our beautiful hotel to relax.
