Classic Tuscany

This tour is a “classic” about Tuscan but, thanks to our permanent presence on the territory, our “remaking” allows bikers to cycle “off the beaten path”. Besides the art and the glory of Pisa, Florence and Lucca the itinerary will bring you to discover charming villages in the countryside, some already known as Vinci and San Miniato but many more still to discover, tasting the real Tuscan way of live.

Highlights: Pisa - Lucca - Vinci - Montecarlo - Montecatini Terme - San Miniato - Firenze - Padule Fucecchio - Piazzale Michelangelo e Fiesole - Rolling Tuscan Country side
Tours: 1. Lucca - Pisa Circuit; 2. Lucca - Montecatini Terme;  3. Montecatini Terme - San Miniato;  4. San Miniato - Signa; 5. Signa - Firenze; 6. Firenze Circuit

Individual arrival to Lucca
Day 1

Arrival individual to Lucca. In the evening, meeting with our manager. In the meeting, the itinerary will be shown, the informative material will be delivered along with the GPS with the routes (and bicycles will be assigned in case of rental).

Lucca - Pisa Circuit
Day 2

Distance: km. 58 (or km. 32)
Altitude: flat

The first tour will bring you to Pisa, under the leaning tower. Leaving Lucca walls behind us to reach the river, we will start biking on Puccini's bike way, in the park along the water to reach Ripafratta and then San Giuliano Terme, and its ancient thermal baths, cycling all around Monti Pisani which separate Lucca from Pisa...following an ancient aqueduct and through  country roads we will finally reach Pisa historical center in 32km. Time to visit the town and taking photos holding the leaning tower....then, who is tired could choose to take the local train with bikes and be back in Lucca in 25 minutes, but we suggest to come back by bike and have a chance to meet old monasteries, villas and fortifications along the road back, and charming villages like Nozzano Castello, an ancient hamlet maintaining its original aspect,  before meeting again our loved walls of Lucca.

Lucca - Montecatini Terme
Day 3

Distance km. 48
Altitude: m. 250

The new Lucca-Montecatini stage is mostly developed along the local wine roads of Lucca and Montecarlo d.o.c. areas, the less known ones, and it’s a “great escape” in the countryside and a big opportunity to taste good wines and Tuscan foods. Montecarlo is a medieval village on a short hill famous for its wines, different from Chianti thanks to a large cultivation of French grapevines, coupled with Sangiovese. The road to Montecatini goes then on very low traffic streets on the plain, rich in plants nurseries. Montecatini has a great night-life and it will satisfy all guests who love trendy bars and restaurants.

Montecatini Terme - San Miniato
Day 4

Distance km. 47
Altitude m. 170

We were speaking about Montecatini Terme night-life, but the town is mainly known because of its famous and ancient thermal baths and wellness centers. So, we suggest to enjoy hot natural water and relax in swimming pool before starting the next tour. The fifth stage will bring you to San Miniato biking along the Padule di Fucecchio, a marshy area with a special fauna rich in migratory birds, and on the plain around Arno River along via Francigena. Besides the historical and art interest, San Miniato is also famous because it hosts an annual festival devoted to the precious white truffle which is harvested in the area around the village, so the local cuisine is strongly influenced by this particular ingredient.

San Miniato – Vinci – Artimino
Day 5
Distance km. 45
Altitude m. 250

A fantastic trip around the rural scenery where Lonardo Da Vinci was born and his genius developed. From San Miniato to Cerreto Guidi and Vinci, through light rolling hills; once in the village you cannot lose the chance to visit Leonardo Da Vinci Museum, and, who loves to go uphill a little more, the country house where Leonardo was born.  We come back down to the river and following the banks of the Arno you will arrive at Montelupo Fiorentino, a nice small village were taking a merenda or light lunch. From here we will continue to follow the river until the feet of Poggio alla Malva, an old hunting estate by Medici of Florence. Here a steep climb will lead you Poggio alla Malva. At the latter you can enjoy the view overlooking the Arno and Pesa valley, sitting among vineyards, olive groves and the remains of historic buildings. The Medici family – who ruled Florence for centuries – used to come to this area to go hunting.  Because of the steep climb and dirt road we suggest to walk for 500m when you leave the river until you reach Poggio alla Malva.
Artimino - Firenze
Day 6

Distance km. 22
Altitude m. 50

Artimino is not very far from Florence and the first part of the itinerary is developed on the local road to reach Parco dei Renai, a green area with a lake that from April to the Autumn become a kind of water park with a beach and many activities to do, where many Fiorentini spend their time to relax and refresh. From here starts the path along the river, far from the traffic, ending at Parco delle Cascine, a green quarter of Florence, where the bike way starts following the Lungarno (street following the Arno River inside the town – they are both in Florence and Pisa). Once in the city center you will have the time to visit all the attractions, historical squares, buildings, museum and churches but also local markets and elegant shops and boutiques that made Florence one of the main capitals about art and fashion. You stay 2 days in Florence: who still wish to cycle more today could follow the first itinerary proposed for day 7 going up to Piazzale Michelangelo, the charming hill facing the city center, and leave for the following day just the challenging trip to Fiesole or simply a day of full relax to visit the town.

Firenze circuits
Day 7

Distance km. 18+20
Altitude m. 100+250

Florence would deserve a lot of time to be completely can take advantage of this additional day to relax and walk in freedom through the hundred’s narrow streets of the city center or have a chance to ride up the hills around to see the town from a different point of view. We suggest two different itineraries one in the south and one in the north.

The first circuit will bring you along the Arno Park and then up to Piazzale Michelangelo - a terrace over Florence with fantastic views – San Miniato al Monte and down to Palazzo Pitti, the residence of Medici family

The second itinerary goes up to a highest point of view, to Fiesole, a beautiful village which offers a magnificent panorama of the city from its hilltop position. Only one climb, in this case, but longer...Fiesole unites the beauty of the landscape with a remarkable cultural heritage evidenced in the Etruscan and Roman remains.
