A marvellous itinerary in terms of technique, landscape and history. 

From the historic centre of Lucca,  and having covered a dozen kilometres to warm us up, we come to the foothills of the Pizzorne Mountains, where we face the first real ascent leading to Matraia at 300 ASL, and at this altitude the road, remarkable for its  enjoyable ups and down, continues through a countryside full of villas, farmhouses, olive groves and vineyards with enchanting panoramas through the towns of Valgiano, San Pietro a Marcigliano, Petrognano and San Gennaro until, suddenly, after a bend, Collodi appears, the village of Pinocchio, a line of houses clinging to a steep hill with the majestic Villa Garzoni at its foot. Here we can decide whether to make our tour more demanding by climbing the Pizzorne or retain the same level of difficulty by remaining on the hills around Montecarlo:
